CLUB HISTORY
In 1956 Bethlehem Steel Co. acquired 400 acres on Rogers Road between Cloverbank Rd. and Amsdell Rd. for the Bethlehem Management Club. The club was established in 1958 and built in 1959. Bethlehem Management along with course architects Gordon and Gordon constructed this 18 hole, 7061 yard championship layout. The Club was solely used by Bethlehem employees and their families as their personal playground. Many enjoyed laying by the pool and swimming, while others teed it up on the golf course. A 12 lane bowling alley was designed and built along with the Clubhouse, as well as two private tennis courts, a basketball court, and horseshoe pits.
In 1987 E.F. Burke Development Co. purchased the club, renaming it Brierwood Country Club. Under Burke ownership an addition to what is now the Members' Grille Room was completed making it Bobby O'Briens, which was open to the public. Burke made another addition to the Main Dining Room, which is now known as the Ballroom and Living Room / Garden Room.
In June of 1997 Arnold Palmer Golf Management bought Brierwood Country Club. Reflecting on the value of a membership at Brierwood Country Club, Arnold Palmer said it best, "Every member of my staff is committed to the enthusiastic pursuit of quality and guest service." Mr. Palmer added, "In every aspect of our business, we strive to exceed the member's expectations of what a golf experience should be...and the very best it can be."
It was with this vision that our General Manager Ray Tugend assembled a team of service professionals committed to excellence in every aspect of the Membership experience. Our Private Members' Grille Room has seen many improvements over the past year, including the addition of our Head Chef. Ed O'Donnell has worked at many of Buffalo's finest restaurants such as Oliver's, Hutch's, and Tsunami. On behalf of the entire staff, we thank you for visiting Brierwood Country Club online.
